“If we hear only a single story about another person or country, we risk a critical misunderstanding.”

Fatima is an independent photographer with an allure towards storytelling that is inextricably linked to the relationships we, humans, have with the natural world.

Having lived in urban spaces with limited access to the outdoors, Fatima’s interest in storytelling grew out of her love for animation. At an early age, she developed and nurtured her awareness of how anthropomorphic cartoons and animated films, especially those depicting biased characters, had the power to shape our relationships towards the natural world. This combined with her love for wildlife led Fatima to pursue an M.A. in conservation storytelling.

Fatima’s work has appeared in the Globe and Mail, The Riverwood Conservancy, Evergreen Brick Works and the Royal Ontario Museum. When not exploring different spaces of storytelling and science communication, she can be found sitting at her desk with a cup of chai doodling the afternoon away.
